All in Accommodation

Swell Lodge, Christmas Island, Australia

It is just before 6am, and the first rays of morning light are peeking into our tent. We have been gently encouraged awake by the same ocean waves that lulled us to sleep many hours before. From our balcony, the waters below are turquoise and cobalt, sparkling in the dawn light as they surge and crash over the russet red rocks. Brown boobies and frigate birds soar past at eye-level, hovering on the sea breeze, so close we barely need our zoom lenses. And around us, the red crabs mill, softly munching on the moist dewy leaves in the early morning cool, their bright orange claws clickety-clacking as they slowly amble by. Welcome to Swell Lodge.

SouthWild Jaguar Flotel, The Pantanal, Brazil

Deep within the Brazilian Pantanal is an area of wetland where the concentration of jaguars are so high, and the chances of seeing them so good, that it has earned the nickname “Jaguarland”.  And here, floating on the river within this jaguar epicentre, is one of the best accommodation options in the entire Pantanal – SouthWild’s Jaguar Flotel, and their luxurious Jaguar Suites.

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

On our approach into Rio’s Santos Dumont airport our spectacular arrival route takes in views of Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain, and the beautiful bays and beaches that have made Rio famous the world over.  It is a stunning first impression, but one which is reinforced repeatedly over our coming days in Rio – this truly is one of the world’s most beautiful cities.

Unique Food & Unique Accommodation in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Our Brazilian adventure begins - and to reach our target destinations, we are first travelling via the Countries biggest city, Sao Paulo. It is a bustling, gritty megacity of some 12 million people, known more for its traffic jams than its tourist attractions, but we are under no illusions – we are here for the food!

Stopover in Santiago - Where to Stay, Where to Eat

After years of making multiple connections by the skin of our teeth, or, more disappointingly, overnighting in the nondescript airline-appointed transit hotel when being bumped onto the subsequent day’s flight, we have finally accepted this as a South American reality, and factored in a stress-alleviating overnight stay in Santiago on our inbound and outbound legs.  We recommend you do the same, and here’s how best to spend your time…

The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Singapore

We are in Singapore again, for the second time in as many months, but this time for a work conference rather than purely YOLO Travel pleasure.  And when needing to stay near the conference centres of the Marina Bay district, there are a multitude of lovely business class hotels from which to choose.  But when looking for an oasis of serenity in this lively city, none come close to matching the divine Fullerton Bay Hotel.

Singapore's Hippest Hotel - The Warehouse Hotel (& Po Restaurant)

“Achingly hip” – it is the only way to describe the lobby of The Warehouse Hotel.  We arrive at dusk, and the low lighting suffuses the gorgeous bar with warmth, while the dangling edison globes reveal an eclectically decorated loft.  A cathedral ceiling arches overhead, and exposed brickwork and metalwork give an industrial-chic vibe.  There is fashionable low slung furniture, filled with fashionable people, and cocktail glasses clink and sparkle in the subdued glow. Welcome to The Warehouse Hotel…

Capella Lodge, Lord Howe Island - More Baillie Lodges Luxury

In a concerted effort to see more of our amazing homeland, we are visiting some of its most impressive islands.  After the stunning beauty of Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island last year, we were super keen to experience another Luxury Lodge of Australia – so this time it is the iconic Capella Lodge on World Heritage listed Lord Howe Island…

The Havannah, Efate, Vanuatu

The Havannah is Vanuatu’s most stylish adults-only resort, nestled on the waters of Havannah Harbour on Efate’s western coast. Here, watch the sun set over the islands of Lelepa and Moso, with cocktail in hand at their barefoot bar.

Rockwater Resort, Tanna, Vanuatu

Vanuatu’s newest resort, Rockwater Resort, has taken the standard of accommodation on the island of Tanna to a whole new level. Charming, eclectic and exceptionally comfortable, it is the lodging of first choice when visiting Tanna and of course Mount Yasur Volcano.

Stop over in Copenhagen at Hotel 71 Nyhavn

Our latest adventure is focused on the remote locations of Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. But of course to get there, we are passing through the Danish capital Copenhagen, and so a suitably stylish and comfortable hotel, in a happening location of course, was on the agenda. And our choice, Hotel 71 Nyhavn located in the heart of the Nyhavn waterfront, canal and entertainment district.
